The Voice of Ireland
The Voice of Ireland is a brand new show that has just started on RTE One. The show airs on RTE One every Sunday at 6.30pm. The Voice of Ireland, presented by Kathryn Thomas, effectively takes the place of the previously produced RTE Series – The All Ireland Talent Show, which was hosted by Grainne Seoige. Unlike, other music talent competitions on TV the Voice of Ireland focuses on participants’ singing abilities rather than gimmicks or looks. The show’s four judges are Bressie (Niall Breslin), Sharon Corr, Kian Egan and Brian Kennedy. Blind Auditions will be held whereby Judges will hear contestants sing. Judges will not be able to see their acts until after they have selected them. In the situation where more than one Judge picks an act, the act will then be able to chose which Judge they would like to work with.
The show originates from Holland. A global franchise has taken off and a series has begun in the United States. It is seen as a refreshing alternative to shows like the X Factor which have been criticised for focusing too much on a look or gimmick rather than genuine musical talent.
The 11th Hour
The 11th Hour is a music show presented by Dave Fanning. The 11th Hour is aired on RTE Two. Fanning interviews some of the latest upcoming acts in Irish Music as well as some more established acts. The show also features performances from some well known music acts.
Fanning frequently interviews non-musical celebrities about their favourite bands and their music likes / dislikes.
